  • HOW TO CHOOSE

The hip belt is the most important part of camera backpacking! Without the right size hip belt (one with padding that properly wraps around the front of your hip bones), you will not be able to properly load the weight of your heavy camera gear. Atlas Packs offers three different style hip belts in four sizes ranges. Pick the hip belt that works best for your needs. The hip belt is designed to transfer around 90% of your backpack’s weight from your shoulders to your hips.

All Atlas Packs hip belt's are interchangeable and can be used with all packs. And because the hip belt is removable, it's easy to make your pack smaller when you need; perfect for daily use and light loads.

  • The Athlete Hip Belt

The Athlete Hip Belt is designed for lighter loads and includes a thick single-layer of foam with a soft outer span that makes for a more streamlined and minimalist look with incredible fit and comfort. The Athlete style hip belt is recommended for packs with lighter loads (under 25lbs). The design of the webbing on the Athlete belt angles up as it goes around your mid section and works well with layers like jeans, shorts and a belt for all day comfort.

  • The Adventure Hip Belt

The Adventure Hip Belt is designed for heavier loads and includes a thick dual-layer of foam with a mesh outer span designed to grip and hold tight while providing for the utmost in comfort. This belt is best if you are super skinny without much in the way of layers OR if you have lots of love around your handles. The contour and shape of the belt means you can rest a lot of weight without having to squeeze super tight. If you're looking for a hip belt that can handle heavier loads, the Adventure Hip Belt is perfect for you. It features a thick dual-layer of foam with a mesh outer span designed to grip and hold tight, ensuring maximum comfort.

  • The Traveler's Hip Belt

The Travel Hip Belt (also known as the Haenisch Hip Belt) has no padding, just a soft wrap with 38mm buckle and webbing. The Travel Hip Belt is available as an add on item and is not included with a pack.

Available in gray (as shown) and black. Sizes S/M, M/L, XL with fit similar to the Adventure belt

ABOUT ATLAS PACKS HIP BELTS

Why Atlas Packs includes a proper hiking hip belt...

The only way to control the weight of heavy camera gear is with a properly sized and structured hip belt. The bottom of the hip belt should be at the exact same height as the bottom of your camera bag but it's not. Don't believe me, check out your profile in a mirror. Atlas Packs hip belts are never higher than the bottom of the pack!!

Finding the right size is easy. Checkout the fitting chart and follow the steps. The most important measurement is to make sure the padding is long enough to cover your hips. If the padding falls short, then the weight of the pack will not properly transfer away from your shoulders and load on to your hips.

Atlas Packs | Hip Belts

Finding the right size is easy. Checkout the fitting guide and follow the steps.

The most important measurement is to make sure the padding is long enough to cover your hips. If the padding falls short, then the weight of the pack will not properly transfer away from your shoulders and load on to your hips.

Option 1: Pants Size

Choose hip belt size based on your pants size. This is the easiest way and works 95% of the time. If you are between sizes, then use the other options.

Option 2: Measure Hip Span

Measure the span of your hips, ust the length needed for the padding to cover both (end to end) plus a few smidges.

Why choose the right STYLE belt?

It's no secret that Atlas Packs hip belts are special. No other camera bag on the planet includes as many options or sizes for hip belts.Without properly sized and rated hip belt, your camera gear is heavier by a factor of x2.

How are belts rated?

Because Atlas Packs are modular, hip belts are designed to beswapped-out or not used at all. When it comes to rating, each belt israted for use based on a number of factors including the weight of yourgear, how long you will be carrying your pack and the shape/contour ofyour hips.

How to choose the right SIZE belt?

Finding the right size is easy. Checkout the fitting chart and followthe steps. The most important measurement is to make sure the padding is long enough to cover your hips. If the padding falls short, then the weight of the pack will not properly transfer away from your shoulders and load on to your hips.

How much are hip belts?

The cost of the hip belt is included with the cost of the pack. Additional hip belts are available as add-ons.

FIDLOCK MAGNETIC BUCKLE

A Fidlock Slider 40 magnetic buckle is included, this makes putting the belt on and taking it off super easy, while also ensuring a secure fit. This buckle is not only convenient, but also extremely durable, with a static breaking load of about 20kg / 50lb. Plus, with MOLLE webbing on the sides, you can connect to 3rd party pouches and camera clips for more flexibility and convenience when organizing your gear.

HIP BELT SIZE GUIDE

How to choose your hip belt.

1. Start with sizes. See the chart.
2. FYI: All hip belts belts fit all packs.
3. Which belt is the best?

That's really hard to say, it's such a personal choice. Generally speaking the Adventure belt is considered more comfortable as it offers two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle. The Athlete belt has a single foam layer and works better for short trips and city use.

Can I measure with a tape measure?

Yes. To measure with a tape measure you need to calculate the the span between your hips.

Place the tape measure on the front of one hip bone and work the tape around your back until you get to the other hip. For the final calculation add two fingers to each side for the total >> Measure up!

The width of the padding should cover the distance between your hips plus 1in/2.5cm on both sides.

How do I connect the hip belt to the pack?

This step is important. Hip belts are connected to the small pouches on the side of your pack. The 15mm webbing (the small skinny piece), needs to thread into the small buckle as shown in this image here. Be sure to pull tight and create a lot of tension.

HIP BELTS 101:

  • INCLUDED WITH PACK

A hip belt of your choice is included with the purchase of a pack.

  • Why a fitted hip belt?

The most important part of the pack is the hip belt and in this regard Atlas Packs offers options unlike any other brand. Designed to transfer around 90% of your backpack’s weight from your shoulders to your hips. All belts are compatible with all packs.

  • How to find the right fit?

Finding the right size is easy. Checkout the fitting chart below and follow the steps. The most important measurement is to make sure the padding is long enough to cover your hips. If the padding falls short, then the weight of the pack will not properly transfer away from your shoulders and load on to your hips.

  • Two ways to measure.

Start with your pant size. This is the easiest way and works 95% of the time. If you are between sizes, then use the other options.

Option (1) measure the full width of your waist staying at hip height all the way around with a tape measure.

Option (2), measure the span of your hips, just the length needed for the padding to cover both (end to end) plus a few smidges.

HIP BELT RATINGS EXPLAINED

Why rate hip belts?

Customer expectations. Just like the aperture on a lens is a good basis for understanding how a lens will perform under certain conditions. The ratings on the hip belts work the same way. Let's get into the details..

RATING: "Total Load" explained

The Total Load Rating explains which belt is best based on the total weight of your pack. This Total Load will fluctuate within a range and this is where this belt excels.

Use this rating in combination to duration to decide which belt is right for you. If you find that your avg. Total Load changes, consider changing your belt.

RATING: "Carry Time" explained

The Carry Time rating factors in duration, how long you plan to carry the total load.

Think of this ratings as a way to define how much weight a belt can easily control / manage over what period of time.

RATING: "Fit" explained

The Fit rating helps explains how each of the belts fits around your
hips. Each belt is cut a different way and had different layers of foam
and padding that fit and contours best for specific bodies types.

How do I use the rating to help me decide?

Think about how much total load (on average) you will carry and for how
long. Even light loads over long period of time add up.

So I can choose any belt?

Yes! When you pick your pack, you will also choose your belt from the drop down list.

Of note, the colorway of the belt will match the pack (gray belts with yellow and gray packs. black belts with black packs).

Do I need both the Athlete and Adventure belt?

Generally speaking no. There is a lot of overlap between the models.
With that said, you may want both because of aesthetics and find the
Athlete works best in the city and the Adventure works best for
trekking.

Rate the competition

A competitive analysis of the top 25 selling camera bags on the market shows in an average rating between a Hip Strap and the Travelers Hip belt.

Factually no other camera bag comes with a fitted size hip belt that can support can properly control and manage more than 25lbs.

What's the difference between belt and pack ratings?

The belt ratings are designed to help you decide which belt will work best for you.

The pack ratings have nothing to do with you. They are specific to the packs and maximum total load.

For clarity. The Athlete is rated up to 100lbs and the Adventure is rated up to 150lbs. Please DO NOT test these ratings.

What about big and tall sizing?

We got ya! The Adventure hip belt offers support unlike any other belt on the market. The XXL-XXL likely has you covered and if it's short, we can add an extender at no additional cost. We love help and will make a custom extender for you.

Dang! I got the wrong size?

After all that and the size did not work out. Don't worry, we will have belts available for this purpose and will swap you out. Please contact Pro Support via chat and we will get you setup with the right size.

Can hip belts be used separately from the packs?

Yes! This is just one more reason to love Atlas Packs. By adding a small strip of webbing, the versatility of the hip belt has increased 10x. MOLLE is a universally recognized method of attaching items to bags/packs/clothing and there are countless options readily availablefor whatever you need to carry.I can't wait to see how this changes the experience. By attaching MOLLE pouches you can hit the trail without anything on your back. How crazy is that for a backpack company! PS: Of note, make sure you get the new magnetic buckles as they are designed for use when the belt is off the pack.
