HIP BELT SIZE GUIDE

GET FITTED

Finding the right size is easy. Checkout the fitting guide and follow the steps.

The most important measurement is to make sure the padding is long enough to cover your hips. If the padding falls short, then the weight of the pack will not properly transfer away from your shoulders and load on to your hips.

Option 1: Pants Size

Choose hip belt size based on your pants size. This is the easiest way and works 95% of the time. If you are between sizes, then use the other options.

Option 2: Measure Hip Span

Measure the span of your hips, ust the length needed for the padding to cover both (end to end) plus a few smidges.

Why Atlas Packs includes a proper hiking hip belt...

The only way to control the weight of heavy camera gear is with a properly sized and structured hip belt. The bottom of the hip belt should be at the exact same height as the bottom of your camera bag but it's not. Don't believe me, check out your profile in a mirror. Atlas Packs hip belts are never higher than the bottom of the pack!!

Why choose the right STYLE belt?

It's no secret that Atlas Packs hip belts are special. No other camera
bag on the planet includes as many options or sizes for hip belts. Without properly sized and rated hip belt, your camera gear is heavier by a factor of x2.

How are belts rated?

Because Atlas Packs are modular, hip belts are designed to be
swapped-out or not used at all. When it comes to rating, each belt is
rated for use based on a number of factors including the weight of your
gear, how long you will be carrying your pack and the shape/contour of
your hips.

How to choose the right SIZE belt?

Finding the right size is easy. Checkout the fitting chart and follow
the steps. The most important measurement is to make sure the padding is long enough to cover your hips. If the padding falls short, then the weight of the pack will not properly transfer away from your shoulders and load on to your hips.

How much are hip belts?

The cost of the hip belt is included with the cost of the pack. Additional hip belts are available as add-ons.

HIP BELT RATINGS EXPLAINED

Why rate hip belts?

Customer expectations. Just like the aperture on a lens is a good basis for understanding how a lens will perform under certain conditions. The ratings on the hip belts work the same way. Let's get into the details..

RATING: "Total Load" explained

The Total Load Rating explains which belt is best based on the total weight of your pack. This Total Load will fluctuate within a range and this is where this belt excels.

Use this rating in combination to duration to decide which belt is right for you. If you find that your avg. Total Load changes, consider changing your belt.

RATING: "Carry Time" explained

The Carry Time rating factors in duration, how long you plan to carry the total load.

Think of this ratings as a way to define how much weight a belt can easily control / manage over what period of time.

RATING: "Fit" explained

The Fit rating helps explains how each of the belts fits around your
hips. Each belt is cut a different way and had different layers of foam
and padding that fit and contours best for specific bodies types.

How do I use the rating to help me decide?

Think about how much total load (on average) you will carry and for how
long. Even light loads over long period of time add up.

So I can choose any belt?

Yes! When you pick your pack, you will also choose your belt from the drop down list.

Of note, the colorway of the belt will match the pack (gray belts with yellow and gray packs. black belts with black packs).

Do I need both the Athlete and Adventure belt?

Generally speaking no. There is a lot of overlap between the models.
With that said, you may want both because of aesthetics and find the
Athlete works best in the city and the Adventure works best for
trekking.

Rate the competition

A competitive analysis of the top 25 selling camera bags on the market shows in an average rating between a Hip Strap and the Travelers Hip belt.

Factually no other camera bag comes with a fitted size hip belt that can support can properly control and manage more than 25lbs.

What's the difference between belt and pack ratings?

The belt ratings are designed to help you decide which belt will work best for you.

The pack ratings have nothing to do with you. They are specific to the packs and maximum total load.

For clarity. The Athlete is rated up to 100lbs and the Adventure is rated up to 150lbs. Please DO NOT test these ratings.
