HOW THIS SETUP FITS CAMERA GEAR

Fully expanded (both folds down), the Origami Camera Core (TM) in the Adventure Pack is rated for big glass mounted on camera bodies. As an example a Sony 400mm 2.8 or a 200-600 in ready to shoot.

With the first fold down, the Origami Camera Core (TM) in the Adventure Pack is split 50/50. This setup is rated for lenses akin to a 70-200 2.8 with body attached and a 200-600 without the body.

With both folds down, the Origami Camera Core (TM) in the Adventure Pack is now setup with just 6 liters for camera gear. At this size you can fit up to x4 2.8 size lenses and a body.

ATHLETE PACK

We wanted a camera bag that wouldn't impede movement in busy urban areas or while moving over terrain. The design challenge is that camera gear is very dense and heavy and needs to be properly supported or the bag will swing around too much.

200-600 SIZE GLASS

A simple push or pull and you reconfigure the space. The Athlete is rated for gear as big as a Sony 200-600

FULLY ACCESSIBLE

No inserts or core units getting in your way. Unzip and have full access to all your gear.

How camera gear fits the

OVERVIEW

With the Athlete Pack you can expect gear to sit above the height of the dividers and sidewalls. This is expected and normal. It's a super shallow pack!

What fits in the Athlete Pack?

Gripped Sony Alpha + Canon 5D + Canon R5 + Sony Alpha (non grip) + Fuji X100

How deep is the Athlete for camera gear?

You can control the column gaps (horizontal spacing) and also the row spacing (vertical spacing) from 0 to 50px.

How deep does the Athlete Pack measure?

You will find that when the pack is zippered close there is a lot more room inside than one can measure with a ruler. In terms of usage, you can expect tall (6in / 15cm) sized gear to fit. It's important to note that
tall gear should be arranged so that there are no highs and lows.

GM & RF WIDES

ATHLETE PACK: + Gripped Canon R5 Kit with Canon R5 and 70-200 2.8 RF, 600 RF, 15-35 2.8 RF and Mavic Pro and remote.

.......

Now let's get into the glass. The new generation of Athlete Packs means you can drop-in six inch tall glass. Let's talk about glass for a minute. The biggest change to come as it relates to camera gear will happen right here. Big lenses like the a 500 are getting smaller and lighter. Wides and primes are getting heavier, wider and taller. And everything is getting more expensive.

CANON R BODIES W/GRIP

NOTE: GRIP IS UP

.......

In the next set of examples, we've taken a gripped and non-gripped Canon R5 with a 70-200 RF lens and placed it at the bottom of the pack. The thing to note here is that this section of the pack is the tightest and placing tall object here places a lot of pressure on the zipper. Putting a gripped body (of any type) at the bottom of the pack is NOT recommended.

CANON BODIES W/O GRIPS

Here is the exact same kit without the grip. As you can see there is ample head room for both the body and lens now. Please use your judgement when setting up your pack. Move tall items up higher and keep the tension away from the bottom corners.

HOW CAMERA BODIES FIT

The increase in depth means that it's much easier to store gripped bodies in the Athlete Pack, but what about non-gripped bodies and smaller sets of gear.

In this photo above, we have an assortment of camera bodies arranged without lenses. As you can see, the depth of the Athlete Pack is still really shallow and works great with the smaller systems and sets.

**It's important to note the Nikon D850 with an RRS L-bracket attached will now fit in

SONY ALPHA BODIES WITH GRIPS

Let's take a look at a Sony kit with a gripped a7 iii body and 70-200 lens attached. The important thing to note in the above example is how much higher the camera body sits when hot-shoe up. Even though there is enough room, my recommendation is to put gripped bodies in grip side up.

ACCESS SONY ALPHA GRIP-UP IS BEST WORKFLOW

In the above photo you cam see how much shorter the grip-up method is. With the hot shoe up, the eye piece sits well above sidewalls and has a
tendency to pop-off.

Of note: *Without grip the eye-piece on mirrorless bodies goes well under the sidewalls.

SUPER SHALLOW

Just to make sure I am clear >> In the Athlete Pack you can expect gear to sit above the height of the dividers and sidewalls. This is expected and normal. It's a super shallow pack!

You will find that when the pack is zippered close there is a lot more room inside than one can measure with a ruler. In terms of usage, you can expect tall (6in / 15cm) sized gear to fit. It's important to note that tall gear should be arranged so that there are no highs and lows.

If you do not balance out your setup, your backpanel will have a dip. When balanced out correctly, the backpanel is designed to secure your gear. The fit will feel firm and secure and flush against your back.

GRAB BAG TOP HANDLE

Thick and heavy duty grab bag top handle is a pleasure to use. Designed to stand-up well and be ready when you need to grab your pack. Rubber cover can be heated and repaired should it get any scratches or gouges.

TOP LID MOLLE

In addition to the MOLLE loops on the hip belt, a set of loops has been added to the top lid.

OVERBUILT ADJUSTABLE SHOULDER HARNESS

The Athlete Pack includes a sewn-in shoulder harness with a torso length based on frame height. The straps are well cushioned and very comfortable. They break in quickly and feel great on bare skin.

SIDE ACCESS

Side-Access to the front side of the Athlete Pack. At this position you are right above the top of the Origami fold. This side zipper (YKK Aqua Guard with sealed seams) has been added on the right side of the pack. The main benefit of this zipper means you don't have to open the front lid to get to the front of your pack. Super helpful.

SMALLER | TONAL ATLAS LOGO

The ATLAS logo on the front of the pack is significantly smaller and the colorway is tonal. You can expect the logo to fade out in the shadows and be somewhat visible in direct light with a bit of sheen.

SIDE POCKET DUMP POUCHES

Tucked away in the side pouches that connect the belt to the pack are a set of dump pouches. Hidden away in the side pouches (the flaps that help connect the belt to the pack) are a set of secret dump pouches. Great for lenses, water bottles, cell phones, snacks, etc... For the GEN2 packs the much requested elastic draw-string has been added.

TRIPOD / WATER SIDE POCKETS

The side pockets of the Athlete Pack (used for water bottles and tripods) have undergone a significant change. The bottom 1/3 of the pocket has a split layer that reinforces and protects against wear and tear from both inside and outside the pocket. It's important to note that there is a slight loss in flexibility due to the change in design, however users can expect the usage to be much improved.

LOOPS, LASH AND HOOK ON

A full set of lash loops running down the front of the pack along with a set of loops for connecting ice axes, skis, snow shoes, runs down the front of the pack. On the Adventure Pack this feature is new to the GEN2 packs. The underside of the pack include loops for sleeping bags.

PACK SIZE AND FITTING GUIDE

Torso fitting is better for backpacks because it allows the weight of the backpack to be more evenly distributed across the body. This can help to prevent strain on the shoulders and back, which can be a common problem with camera bags because they are not properly fitted. Additionally, torso fitting can help to improve stability and balance when carrying a backpack, which can be especially important when traveling over rough terrain or when carrying a heavy load. Overall, torso fitting can help to make carrying a backpack more comfortable and efficient.

FITTING BASED ON HEIGHT

While torso fitting is best, height works 86% of the time.

-----
+ If you are 5’8 / 1.7m or below, the medium size pack typically fits best.

+ If you are taller than 5’11/1.8m the large size pack typically fits best

TORSO LENGTH

Torso length provides the most accurate measurement for backpack fitting.

-----
+ If your torso length is shorter than 18" / 45.5cm, the medium size pack typically fits best.

+ If your torso length is longer than 18"/45.5cm the large size pack typically fits best.

HOW TO MEASURE
1. Cut a piece of string 18"/45.5cm
2. Hold the top to your C7 vertebrae and drop the bottom end.
3. Now feel all the way down to where string ends. It will fall either above or below your Iliac Center (essentially your love handles and where you rest your hands when you are putting your hands on your hips).

-----
PS: If the string goes past your love handles, that means your torso is shorter than 18" = medium size pack. If the string ends before
your love handles, that means your torso longer than 18" = large size pack.

Pack Size Guide
